Hidden Luxuries: The Rise of Comfort Features in Modern Gowns

ree

We may be just a tad biased but we think that moment you step into a gown – wedding, prom or anything in between – is pure magic.  One minute it’s on the hanger looking like a dream, the next you’ve slipped it on and - BAM – you’re imagining yourself gliding down the aisle or twirling across the dance floor til the clock strikes twelve.

Your dress might be magical but if it’s not comfortable too, that magic fades fast.

We’ve seen a big shift lately in just how much our brides and prom goers are prioritising comfort above almost everything else right from the first fitting.  And designers (thankfully) are listening.  Loads of gorgeous gowns now have deliciously sneaky little details that just make life comfier: built-in bras so no panic about your undies, soft padding that shapes without digging in, adjustable corsets that move with you and pockets are pretty much an essential now.

These little details aren’t just practical, they’re confidence boosters.  When you’re not worrying about tugging, pinching or shifting fabric, you really can relax and enjoy every single second of wearing your gown.

Built-in bras and support padding

99% of bridal gowns have built-in bra cups and once you’ve tried one, you’ll never look back.  No strapless bras slipping down, no extra layers making you feel like a sausage roll wrapped in tulle, just the support you need, built right in.

The added padding smooths and shapes everything beautifully while also ticking one more thing off your pre-wedding list.  Less faffing, more time for pre-ceremony fizz.

Corset backs vs zips

We’re huge fans of a corset back here and they’re fantastic if you’re a size 14 or up.  They can adjust up or down taking away the need to become completely obsessed with what you’re eating in the run up to the big day.  You know your dress will still fit perfectly, enjoy that biscuit!

If a corset back isn’t for you, we have lots of options with smooth (almost invisible) zips or delicate button closures. It’s all about what makes you feel the most comfortable – and what you’ll be happiest in for hours on end.

Ties and adjustable features

Corset ties aren’t just for looks; they’re a quiet hero.  Wedding planning and prom prep starts well in advance of the event, it’s unsurprising that you’ll see little changes in your body along the way – a good lace-up back will adjust right along with you.

For prom, we’ve seen open backs with corset ties everywhere this year and are taking orders for 2026 too.  They’re elegant, adjustable and they add a little bit of drama that looks brilliant in the photos.

Thanks, it’s got pockets

Years ago, pockets in a wedding dress just weren’t a thing…now, brides want pockets.  Especially with the decline of the bridal bag, where else are you going to stash your tissues and a lippie for topping up after cake?

Our prom goers have been all about the pockets too and that moment they realise their dress has them. Pure joy.

We’re all about comfort

From design to big day, comfort features are here to stay:

Designers: keep building in support (and just accept that pockets are here to stay)!

Brides and prom goers:  try as many different back styles as you can – zip, corset, buttons – you might be surprised about which one you love…and which one feels best on your body.

Retailers: don’t forget to point out these tiny touches, we’ve seen our shoppers light up when they realise there are so many options.

The most luxurious thing about a gown isn’t just the fabric or the sparkle, it’s feeling completely at ease from the first photo to the very last dance.  And if your dream dress just happens to have pockets? That’s the cherry on top!
