Corsets – The Biggest Trend of 2025

Today, we’re going to be talking about the fashion moment of 2025: corsets. Yep, they're back, and they’re not just for costume dramas or your Pinterest “Bridgerton” board anymore. Corsets have been around for centuries, but their 2025 glow-up is fresh, fearless, and fabulous. From proms to weddings, corsets are everywhere this year, and they’re not hiding behind layers of fabric either. No, these gorgeous pieces are front and centre with dresses even being created around the corset element.

So, why the sudden corset obsession? And how are people actually wearing them in 2025? Let’s look at the trend that's snatching waists and hearts!

Why everyone’s wearing corsets right now

Before we talk about how to incorporate a corset into your look, let’s catch up on why everyone is loving corsets. The modern corset isn’t really about going full Victorian, instead it’s all about mixing structure with softness.

You’ll see these bodices mostly in tulle, lace, or mesh with some kind of see-through element. The boning is often visible, which adds a little edge without taking away from the rest of the dress. It’s the kind of detail that makes a gown feel special without being over-the-top. This makes them very wearable whilst still being a stunning addition to your look.

Why the fit works for so many people

Corset style dresses are very popular for the simple reason that they’re flattering! The structure built into the bodice shapes the waist and gives a more defined silhouette, no matter your body type. You don’t need a bunch of undergarments or tricks as it’s already built in.

As long as the dress fits properly, you shouldn’t have to deal with anything digging in or bulging out. The design is meant to hold everything in comfortably and give a smooth look. It’s fitted, but not restrictive, just enough structure to make you feel secure without feeling squeezed. The lace-up styles also make sizing a little more forgiving, which is helpful if you’re in between sizes or just want something that you can easily adjust as needed.

Corsets in bridal vs. prom

Corsets are showing up in both bridal and prom fashion, but they’re typically taking on different styles depending on the occasion.

Bridal corsets

In bridal, it’s usually soft and romantic. Think sheer lace bodices, subtle boning, and delicate details. These gowns tend to lean into the dreamy, ethereal vibe with lots of light fabrics, neutral tones, and floral touches. The corset is there, but it blends in with the rest of the dress instead of standing out too much.

Prom corsets

In prom dresses, the corset look is often a bit more bold. There’s more going on like beading, shimmer, colourful fabrics, and dramatic backs. The structure of the corset gives the dress a bit of edge, especially when paired with a statement skirt or eye-catching neckline.

What you should know before choosing a corset dress

If you’re thinking about going for a corset-style dress, here are a few quick things to keep in mind:

Make sure it fits right

This is probably the most important part. A corset dress should feel snug and supportive, but not tight or uncomfortable. If it’s too loose, you’ll lose the structure. Too tight, and it’ll be hard to breathe or sit which could potentially spoil your special occasion. Getting the right size or having it tailored makes a huge difference.

You might need help getting into it

A lot of these dresses, especially the lace-up ones, aren’t exactly easy to put on solo. Plan ahead for someone to help you get dressed on the day of your event.

Pick the style that works for you

If you want something soft and pretty, go with lace or mesh with subtle boning. If you want something bold, look for beaded corsets, strong silhouettes, or fun pops of color. The base is the same, but you can really make it your own.
