Planning a wedding is incredibly exciting but it can also be stressful, particularly when it comes to bridesmaids dresses. Navigating this process often becomes a bit overwhelming because of the variety of opinions and choices involved.
With this in mind, we’ve put together this blog to help guide you toward dreamy bridesmaids' dresses that will delight brides and bridesmaids!
Book an appointment
Booking an appointment to choose bridesmaids' dresses is more than just ticking off a box on the to do list. It's an opportunity to connect with the bride and understand her vision for the day, as well as talk about things like colour palettes and styles.
Appointments do get snapped up fast, so it’s important to make sure that you book well ahead of time. Predictably, most people want a Saturday appointment, and we often see a big influx of appointments around Spring, so it’s a good idea to book extra early if you’re set on these times.
Be selective with who you bring to the appointment
When it comes to bringing people to the dress appointment, less is often more. While you might be tempted to include every bridesmaid, mums, and other important figures, it's recommended to keep the group small and focused.
Start with the most ‘significant’ wedding individuals - those who might have challenging sizing requirements or hold decision-making roles, like the maid of honour. This approach prevents an influx of opinions that could overshadow the bride's preferences and make the process stressful.
Large groups can inadvertently hijack the appointment, causing stress and even spoiling the experience for the bride. By keeping the group small, supportive, and tight knit, you create a supportive environment where the bride's voice is heard!
Set a budget
Before diving into the fun of shopping for bridesmaid dresses, it is a good idea to establish a clear budget. Having a budget in mind will help narrow down your choices and prevent any surprises later on, as well as help us to direct you towards the right dresses.
Remember that your bridesmaids will have varying financial situations, so aim for a reasonable budget that considers everyone's comfort and have the discussion before you start shopping.
What to bring to your bridesmaid dress appointment
Now we’ve covered booking your appointment, budgets, and who to include, let’s talk about what you need to bring or wear to the appointment!
Make sure that you wear underwear similar to what you'll wear on the wedding day, and if you plan on wearing a specific bra, wear it to the appointment. This is vital for gauging things like how the dress fits over it and if the bra straps show. If heels are part of your ensemble, wear them as well as this will help us to judge the length of the dresses accurately, ensuring alterations don’t need to be made after the dress has already been ordered.
Our goal is to get the dress right from the beginning, minimising the need for alterations. However, if circumstances do change, we're flexible and can adapt accordingly. Our priority is to make you feel confident and comfortable in the chosen dresses.
What if one of the bridesmaids is pregnant?
Pregnancy shouldn't be a concern when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. We've had extensive experience working with pregnant bridesmaids, from post pregnancy to feeding, so you can be confident that we can accommodate their needs.
Ideally, we’d need to see them as early as possible in the pregnancy, allowing us to plan and predict the appropriate dress style and fit, so please don’t keep this information to yourself. We work directly with the pregnant person and help to predict what dress fit will work, helping to ensure the dress fits comfortably and perfectly matches the bride's theme, but is still practical for things like feeding if required.
