How the Prom Dress Register Works (and Why It Matters)

There’s a fear that comes up time and time again when teens start thinking about prom and it has nothing to do with finding the right dress.  It’s arriving at the venue and spotting someone else wearing the exact same one.  

When you’ve spent months choosing, screen shotting and probably dreaming about your perfect prom look, the last thing you want is to spend the night feeling like you’re wearing a uniform.  That’s exactly why the prom dress register exists and if you haven’t heard of it, let us fill you in!  

So, what is a prom dress register?  

A prom dress register is a system used by boutiques like ours to track which prom dresses have been sold to which schools.  Once a dress style has been chosen by a girl at a particular school, that same style won’t be sold to anyone else at the same school.  

We take it really seriously.  Our register is digital - not scribbled on a bit of paper somewhere - because we know just how much it matters to the girls who come through our doors. Every dress is logged with the school’s name, the style, the colour and the order details and our whole team works from the same system so nothing slips through the gaps.

How does the process work in practice?

When you've chosen your dress, we check the register to confirm it hasn't already been reserved for your school. If it's available, we log it immediately in your name so from that moment, it's yours and yours alone for that prom night. If a style you love is already taken for your school, we'll let you know and help you find something just as beautiful that isn't.

What if you want to match with a friend?  

This happens very often and of course the answer is yes - coordinating with a friend is absolutely something we can (and love to) accommodate. Whether that's the same dress in different colours, complementary styles or two siblings who want similar looks, we're happy to make that happen.  

The register is there to prevent accidental duplication, not intentional coordination. Just let us know when you book, and we'll make sure everything is arranged. 

Why a specialist boutique makes a difference

General retailers and online shops don't track who's buying what or where they're going which means there's no protection at all against someone from your school ordering the same dress from the same website and only finding out about it in that awkward moment you see each other.
